While this isn’t specifically senior pet related, I thought that it would be worth discussing in a blog post. A lot of things have changed in the last year and vet medicine was not spared. Almost as quickly as lockdowns started, most vet clinics began to adopt a curbside model. I know this has caused a lot of frustrations on the part of you all as the pet owners but clinics are doing the best they can to protect their already limited staff members.
For some reason, at the exact same time the pandemic hit, veterinary clinics saw a massive influx of patients. Whether it is because we were all suddenly at home or because of new patients, it put a strain on many clinics. This has led to a lot of stress in the vet field with clinics and their staff being worked unbelievably hard, honestly right now we are seeing a big spike in burnout within the field.
With all of this being said, we are starting to see the signs of vet med opening its doors again. I know many clinics are starting to let in one to two people with their pets in their offices and I believe we will continue to see this pattern expanding as more people have access to the vaccine if they choose to take it.
Rest assured though that your pets are in wonderful hands and treated just like they are ours. I know this is tough but I think we all have to extend some grace to one another. It has been a difficult year and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
